HomeVideotape Transfers

PM Productions can now transfer your foreign VHS tapes.

We've had a large increase in the number of clients requesting that we transfer videotapes from the PAL video format used in Europe, Africa and Asia into DVDs or digital files that can be read here. For years we've only had 1 such request every 2 to 4 years, but we've had perhaps 4 in the last 6 months. As a result if the increased demand, we've added PAL VHS videotape transfers to our list of services.

Video Transfers

Like it or not, videotape is on the way out.  Yesterday's hottest new technology is today's hard to find equipment and tomorrow's antique.  PM Productions offers a number of alternatives for converting your videotapes to a more modern format so that you can continue to enjoy them for years to come.  While most people choose to have their tapes transfered to DVDs we can also convert your videos to digital files which can be saved on any suitable medium such as flash drives, hard drives or 'the cloud'.

High Definition Video Transfers

A standard DVD can only hold standard definition video.  If you have a High Definition camera you have a number of alternatives available to you.  Your HD video can be converted to standard definition and burned on to a regular DVD.  If you have a Blu Ray player, your video can be transfered to a High Definition Blu Ray disc.  Another alternative is to convert your HD video to movie files that can be saved to flash drives, hard drives or saved to 'the cloud'.  These files would be playable directly on your computer without requiring the use of a DVD or Blu Ray player.

Videotapes to DVD

A single DVD can hold 2 to 2.5 hours of standard definition video.  That's enough room for a single standard VHS or Hi-8 tape, 2 standard Mini-DV tapes or 4 standard VHS-C tapes.  A single DVD can contain any number of tapes or combination of standard definition tape formats-the only limiting factor is the total time.

Will a Blu Ray disc play on my DVD player?

Unfortunatly, no it will not.  Blu Ray didn't exist at the time the DVD standards were established, so they have no way of knowing how to deal with that format.  On the other hand, since Blu Ray players are the newer technology, most are backward-compatable and are able to play DVDs as well as Blu Ray discs.  Blu Ray players will play DVD discs, but it doesn't work the other way around.
